M O N A V I E ’s visual development process begins with a spark of inspiration in the form of a sketch, which she then brings to life through fabric sourcing, dyeing, pattern making, and garment construction. She adds her signature details with crystal embellishments and embroidery, all while weaving in historical costume references and research from various genres. Drawing from a rich tapestry of cultural influences, she creates designs that are not just visually stunning but deeply personal and meaningful.

Discarded to Divine
In 2012, my design for Discarded to Divine — a fashion initiative that transforms donated clothing into couture for social good — was selected as the Twitter People’s Choice Winner. Displayed at the de Young Museum in San Francisco and later auctioned at the SF Design Center, the piece reflected my early passion for reinvention and purpose-driven design. That moment affirmed something I’ve carried with me ever since: beauty can emerge from what others overlook, and design can be both meaningful and transformative.
